Giro Vanquish Helmet Review

Giro, a Swedish helmet company, has long withheld the title of the best manufacturer and engineer of bike helmets. Every launch is better than before and if there is a new technology available for safety, Giro improves it to enhance the experience for cyclists.

The industry-leading company’s recent launch, the Vanquish bike helmet has left the audience in awe of its aerodynamics and versatility. It’s designed in an old-school style which may not be for everyone but its features target every cycling discipline there is – from competitive racing to time trials.

In this guide, we go over the specs of the Giro Vanquish bike helmet in detail and provide feedback on where it could improve.

Giro Vanquish Helmet Features Review

Aerodynamics in a bike helmet is a strict feature to consider but is it the only one? Not really, every feature of the helmet works together in coherence to provide the comfort the cyclist is looking for which is why knowing about the safety, design and technological-efficiency of a bike helmet is necessary. Here we’ve detailed all about the Giro Vanquish bike helmet.

Shell Material and Safety

The Giro Vanquish bike helmet is outfitted in a four-piece tough polycarbonate shell that is in-mould constructed so excess weight is removed and impact protection is enhanced.

Safety is further enhanced by the addition of MIPS technology that protects the head from rotational impact energies and provides further coverage to the head.

Inside the Giro Vanquish, progressive layering of dual-density EPS foam and a low-density EPP foam absorbs shock at high-speed and low-speed impacts, respectively.

Not to mention, the design of the helmet ensures safety of the cyclist at a lean-forward position, perfect for time trials and competitive cycling.

Size and Fit

The impressive array of features continue with the size and fit of the Giro Vanquish bike helmet. It is available in three standard sizes: small, medium and large, where the large fits head sizes up to 63cm.

Speaking of fitting, the Vanquish helmet is equipped with Giro’s patented Roc Loc 5 Air system that helps riders vertically position the helmet perfectly to their head and then secure the hold through the chin strap buckle.

Also, a plush padding system is stitched inside that enhances comfort of the cyclist, ensures no extra room is spaced and that the cheeks are flush with the helmet.

Design and Aesthetics

The Giro Vanquish bike helmet is designed in 5 colourways of which two are neon greens and three are a variation of black and white. It is shaped like the top of an extremely rounded square which may not be flattering on many head shapes. The black/white colours may look better though.

The Giro Vanquish bike helmet is equipped with a magnetic visor called VIVID by Zeiss and it offers a clear picture of the front and the peripheral while reducing the sun’s glare so the cyclist’s eyes are relaxed but vigilant.

The ventilation and the aerodynamics of the Giro Vanquish bike helmet are among its best features and they are benefited by the use of special protocols.

One is the TransformAIR technology that primarily reduces wind drag on the helmet and prevents the dreaded pull-back that slows down cyclists. It improves the aerodynamic performance of the bike helmet.

Next is the Roc Loc 5 Air system which, besides adjusting the fitting, suspends the helmet a bit off the head for better airflow to the scalp.

To ensure the cyclist isn’t pedalling the distance with a head of steam, the Giro Vanquish is built with a wind-tunnel ventilation system that features four intake ports at the front for air circulation to the head and six exhaust outlets at the back to remove warm air outside.

The helmet also has an internal air channel system that combines the effort of all the above additions and regulates airflow.

The feature-fed Giro Vanquish bike helmet weighs 0.79 lbs in a medium which is decent for a MIPS-integrated helmet that is bulked up with a visor, plush padding and impressive ventilation protocols. The weight is uniformly distributed around the head so the helmet feels lighter and cooler on the road.

Comfort Level

The Giro Vanquish is everything that defines comfort in a bike helmet. It is exceptionally aerodynamic, breathable and sweat-proof – practically makes cyclists feel like they’re wearing wind on their head. The helmet is also safe, durable and impact-protective so every ride is a dream to have.

Performance Limitation

The Giro Vanquish bike helmet is equipped with features that overdeliver in terms of safety, ventilation and lightweight. However, it is an old-school design and that could put off pro cyclists that are always in the eye of the camera.

The Giro Vanquish bike helmet offers a price tag of $300. It is quite the investment but the level of safety it provides, the secure fitting it holds and the incredible ventilation it circulates is not found in many of its competitions.
